  1. President Ken Bernard called the meeting to order at 7:22 p.m. In addition to the President and Secretary, the attendees were Lolitia Bache, Dixon Farmer, Paul Greer, Adam Henderson, Sonja Hill, Allan Hodgert, Lillian Mahoney, Ed Oleata, Patty Oleata, Jim Skelly, and Chuck Woolsey.
  2. The Board approved the minutes of the meeting of December 15.
  3. The President gave the Treasurer's report. The checking account balance as of January 10 was $5548.41 while the certificates of deposit were another $16,000.
  4. The President reported on the meeting of Officers and Chairmen which selected Annual Award winners. The Board distributed responsibility for contacting the various winners.
  5. Bernard reviewed the transformation from AAU to National Governing Bodies with the Sports Act of 1978, and the formation of All-Sports to handle administration. Originally $290 per month, it is now $500. This led to the distribution of a proposed budget, to be discussed in April.
  6. The Board named Lillian Mahoney as Records Chairman, and confirmed Curt Clausen as Racewalking Chairman and Ken Bernard as Registration Chairman.
  7. Hodgert gave an expense budget for the Track & Field Championships and two all-comers meets.
  8. Farmer reported that the Training Center has 9 resident track & field athletes; 45 have been at the site. Clausen won the 50K Trials Race (48°, 30mph winds). The first three walkers all met the A standard. The French, Germans, and Great Britain all plan to send athletes. The February 5 distance running clinic (Bob Larsen, Joe Vigil, Steve Scott) was a success.
  9. Farmer also stated that the Training Center would charge $60 for the Board meeting, starting in April.
  10. Greer announced that he has Brooks as a sponsor for his cross country series. They will provide yellow jackets for series leaders. He distributed budgets and schedules for the road and cross country series. The Competitor is running ads.
  11. Skelly reported that there are 80 certified officials, 8 being processed, and 10 to 12 new ones. Six or seven responded at the Indoor Games, and there were 35 at the January workshop. The officials have a 501(c)(3) in the works.
  12. Oleata reported on progress for the Awards Dinner.
  13. Henderson gave a report for the Youth Committee. Activities have included an Amateur Athletic Federation coaching clinic on coaching young athletes, meet management training, and Hy-Tek software training. The first meet is March 18. There are four new youth clubs.
  14. Bernard stated that the Association had taken a full-page ad, including a registration form, in the High School Records book published by Rich Cota and Steve Brand.
  15. The Board unanimously approved a motion by Bache to spend $2400 to get a new race clock.
  16. The meeting adjourned at 10:12 p.m.
