MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

- President Graeme Shirley called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the President the attendees were Jay Beltz, Lolitia Bache, Philip Dunn, Paul Greer, Thom Hunt, Lillian Mahoney, Roland Morris and Sharon Powell.
- The Board unanimously approved the minutes of the October 19 meeting.
- Treasurer Lolitia Bache provided a written report stating that the checking account balance was $8312.63, while the certificates of deposit were another $16,000. All sports committees are under budget, except for youth. About $3500 is outstanding for the Dirt Dogs series and $2730 is outstanding for National Meeting registrations.
- Dunn reported that the USA 30 km Race Walk Championship is set for January 15 at 8:00 a.m. Dunn will be conducting a 5 km open fitness race walk in conjunction with the Championship. Doug Snyder from the Southern California Association will again provide the walk officials. The City of Chula Vista is being very cooperative, as usual. Dunn intends to advertise in Competitor magazine and Race Place. Championship competitors will be on the course for 2 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes.
- Morris, the new Youth Chairman, reported that the Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships had gone well. On November 17, there will be a meeting at Mesa College with the youth teams. There are currently 28 youth teams. The youth will plan the calendar for the new year.
- Greer reported nothing new. The long distance running committees completed the Dirt Dog series, and are getting started for the new year. The Association and Dirt Dog series championship had 86 men and 42 women. This year, compared to last year's championship, was a night and day difference. The whole series ran smoothly, with positive comments from the athletes. However, there were going to have to be a few "tweaks" for next year.
- Hunt reported that the ad for the CIF booklet looked excellent.
- Shirley gave the registration report. The year-end total for the Association was 1627 members (1128 youth, 216 open, and 283 masters). This was about 85 down from last year, which was more than accounted for by returning the Temecula members back to Southern California.
- The Annual Dinner was discussed. Shirley explained the practice in previous years to Beltz, who is organizing the dinner. The key is to get members to attend this event. Beltz is to discuss locations with Skelly who has helped in the past. Greer volunteered to chair the awards committee. Shirley stated that we should get the information to California Track & Running News.
- Shirley also reported that he sent in registrations for 13 delegates to the National Meeting.
- The Board discussed an athlete's request for transfer to the Southern California Association. Given that the Directors of that Association have a November 2004 Board motion, which has since been confirmed, to not allow transfers either into or out of their association, and that the athlete had presented no evidence that Southern California would accept such a transfer, there was no reason for the Board to act now.
- The Board unanimously approved a motion to change the date of the next meeting to December 14. The site will be the Shirley residence, with a potluck to follow the meeting.
- The meeting adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
